I think the reason for the common approach of IsValid as some kind of general, catch-all test might be because of too much focus on persistence.

这句话什么意思啊？

这里，approach表示调用，调用函数的那个调用。
catch-all也是一个函数吧，不晓得。
大体意思是，现在通常调用IsValid的函数，就像调用一些通用的，或者catchall函数一样，这种调用的原因可能是太多的关注了（程序或模块的）持续性。

我认为原因的共同做法IsValid作为某种一般，包罗万象的测试可能是因为太多的重点放在持续。
