Stay out 不回家。。直接字面就可以看出来的。。out外面，stay呆，呆在外面就是不回家了。。联想记忆。。

join是单词
join in是join的词组，一种使用形式
没有什么很大的区别，因为join即是及物动物又是不及物动词。
因为及物动词不能单独使用，所以join 与 in 连接起来的时间，那它的词性就是做为不及物动词

不过非要区分的话，也可以这样区分
join和join in 都有参加之意,但场合不同.
join 参加某个组织并且成为其中一员.

join in 参加某项比赛或活动,一般用于口语中,[join (with)sb. in sth.]

Join本身就是加入的意思，而后面跟介词in意味加入到什么里，其实没必要再加这个介词
