书山有路勤为径,
Diligence is the path to the mountain of knowledge，
学海无涯苦作舟。
hard-working is the boat to the endless sea of learning

There is no royal road to learning.
Everybody has to lay the foundations of his success by study and hard work.

韩愈的这句话意在告诉人们，在读书、学习的道路上，没有捷径可走，没有顺风船可驶，想要在广博的书山、学海中汲取更多更广的知识，“勤奋”和“潜心”是两个必不可少的，也是最佳的条件。
