美术作品的创作，是一种复杂的精神活动和生产制作活动。它包括两个相互衣存、互为表里的方面：一是对社会生活的观察、体验和审美认识；二是运用物质媒介材料和技艺手段将这种审美认识表现出来，使其物化。这样，一幅油画作品在成为艺术品之前，则要经历两个大的阶段，前者是创作的构思活动阶段，后者是美术创作的传达活动阶段。这种创作活动是一种追求艺术美的过程。
那么，怎样的作品才是真正的艺术作品呢？或者说什么样的作品才具有艺术价值？
