AS和LIKE在做“像”时有什么区别？

还有什么容易混淆的词告诉我一下……
我的英语试卷上有这样的例句：
Getting the right career for yourself is like climbing a ladder----you do it step by step.
You might work as an intern after graduation.

AS
adv. 同样地,像
prep. 当做
conj. 当...之时,像...一样,因为

LIKE
adj. 相似的,同样的
v. 喜欢,愿意,想
prep. 像,如同

查了下。只有当他们是介词的时候可能有点象。
as prep. 当做 like prep. 像,如同

He can run as fast as I can.
他能跑得和我一样快。
It is just as you like.
事情就如你喜欢的那样。

He is like a son to me.
我待他如同儿子一般。

个人感觉嘛。是不是可以这样区别。 like是比较实质的东西。象 你长的象她就用like。as比较抽象？
