I believe that this statement is somewhat correct. When people are in poverty, it is more likely that they will work harder than wealthy people in order to keep themselves above basic living standards. On the other hand, people who are wealthy can easily give up working since they have all the necessities of life. However, if one gets too poor, it is unlikely that he or she will achieve anything important, because they have to worry about very basic things in life such as having sufficient food to eat. To achieve something important, a person must have the spare time and energy to do it. Therefore, poverty can produce incentive to achieve something important but not necessarily.
