for+时间，一般用现在完成时。

I prefer staying at home to going fishing.

prefer doing sth to doing sth 前后动词一致,都用ing形式表宁愿而不愿。。。。

I haven't seen him for 3 years.

I prefer staying at home to going fishing.

前面那句：I haven't seen him for 3 years、（过去完成时）
后面的：I perfer to stay at home rather than go fishing、（句型：perfer to do sth rather than do sth 比起做..来更宁愿做...）

是这样的、

I haven't seen him for 3 years.

I prefer staying at home to going fishing.

i didn't see him 3 years.
i prefer staying at home than go fishing.
