the others后应加名词是错误的，the others已经属於名词词组，the others后应加名词，就变成两个并列名词，而不是构词法裏的连字符

再简单一点理解，is前就近接单数名词，the other相当於单数名词，the others相当於复数名词

one ……the other的确是在某些方面是固定搭配，但是，必须考虑到another的存在

这裏的the other是相对於one来说是特指

而且前面有了特定的数量限制：两只，如果是三只或三只以上，应为the others are small
