Some people think that universities should provide knowledge and skills related to the future career, but others think the true function of university is to give access to knowledge for its own sake. What is your opinion of the main function of university?

众所周知,当学生进入大学后,就开始了接受高等教育,为了将来的工作而做准备.
大学是学习知识的场所,除了基本的知识,老师们还会教学生用(辩证的眼光看问题)(encourage the students to think critically),这些知识在未来的工作中很难系统的学习.大学的学习也能(塑造一些学生的性格)(mould some student's character)和(灌输高尚的道德观)(instill high moral values),并(给学生以动力)(give the students motivation to do sth),不至于让他们在日后的工作中(产生不必要的压力)(beget undue pressure).
当然,(学生不应该只是被动接受知识的容器)(Students should not be treaed as passive recepatacles of predigested ideas),(填鸭式教法教学生)(force-feed the students)只会(打击学生的积极性)(dampen the students' enthusiasm)适当的传授一些职业技能有利于(促进学生身心发展)(promote the student's physical mental and emotional development)和对社会的(适应能力)(adaptability),不至于让学生们在日后的工作中毫
As we all know, it is when a student attends a university that he begins to receive high education, preparing for his future career.
Universities are places to learn knowledge. Teachers not only give basic knowledge, but also encourage students to think critically. These skills may be hard to get in students’ future careers. Besides these, universities can also mould some students’ character, instill high moral values and give students motivation to do something, in case they may beget undue pressure.
However, it is widely agreed that students should not be treated as passive receptacles of predigested ideas. The traditional force-feed methods can do nothing but dampen their enthusiasm, while appropriate vocation education at some rate is fairly helpful on promoting students’ physical, mental and emotional development, as well as their adaptability to society, ensuring that they won’t feel any sense of obligation in future works.
