Two friends from China who knew little English were once
visiting New York. They wanted to take a walk and to see
the city, but they were afraid they might get lost.
After they left their hotel, they looked at the names of
the two streets at the corner. Then, they carefully copied the
two names into their notebook to help them find their way back
if they got lost.
They walked for hours through the city, and suddenly they
realized that they were lost. They went up to a police officer
and asked for help but the officer didn’t speak Chinese. At last
they found a girl who knew Chinese and could help them. They
told the girl that they were lost, and wanted her to show
them the way and they showed the girl what they copied in
their notebook, and the girl began to laugh.
The words which they had so carefully copied were “Stop”
and “One Way”.
