Beijing, the capital of China, is a well-known historical and cultural city. After 60 years construction since the founding of new China, there are still many old houses remained, specially in the inner city. However, nowadays some people are suggesting that these old houses should be all pulled down to make room for modern apartment buildings. In my opinion, it is a wrong and ignorant idea.
It is known to all that Beijing is famous for its long history as the capital of many feudal dynasties. There are many symbolic old constructions and imperial gardens in the city such as Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Jingshan and Beihai Parks. These city's symbols of course should be located in a harmonious environment, namely, the old streets and houses. Just imagine, if the Temple of Heaven were surrounded by many modern apartment buildings, it would totally ruin the feature of Beijing.
