英语里的“the worm has turned”作何解？

原句应该是：Even a worm will turn. 甚至连一只虫子也会翻翻身。

此谚语类似于中文的“狗急跳墙”的意思，指连地位最卑下的人在遭到虐待或侮辱超过一定限度时也会反击的，即把人逼急了必有反抗。其最初的形似是“Tread on a worm’s tail and it will turn(踩到小虫子的尾巴，它会转过身来)”。英国诗人，剧作家John Heywood（约1497-1580）的《谚语集》里收录了这句话（1546）。著名的英国剧作家William Shakespeare （1564-1616）在1590至1591年间创作的剧作《亨利六世》（Henery VI）中用了这一谚语。此谚语的不同形式有：The worm will turn. / Even a mouse will turn. / It’s a long worm that has no turning./ The worm turned and bit the hand that fed it. 等等。
