During the early 19th century,the opulent desingns that dominated the wardrobes of the rich began to disappear;less elaborate dress becaome the order of the day.It was not until after 1845,when the Englishman Charles Worth emigrated to Paris,that the word would come to know another designer.In Paris,he first worked for a fabric dealer,whom he convinced to open a dress department.In 1858,Worth was the first to open a couture house on Rue de la Paix. Along with a list of private clients in Europe and America,he was court dressmaker to Empress Eugenie of France.His success would soon motivate others to establish their own couture businesses
