Due to the cultural differences, a lot of foreign friends are puzzled with Chinese’s greeting when they first come to China. They always hear Chinese people talk to them begin with “did you eat？”.And they don’t know what to reply. Actually ,it’s the same as ”hello” in west. Both them express their warm greeting. Obviously ,there still are many difference between the east and the west. For example, Westerners will be a warm hug and a kiss to express their delight when they meet others. However, in the eyes of Chinese people, a simple handshake, a hug or a faint smile is enough. In China, Younger people should first say hello elders. It is a way of expressing the homage.
All in all, in cross-cultural communication, we need note the differences to prevent misunderstanding.
