英语一个倒装句的问题

这不是一个正常的倒装结构。只是as food 作为方式状语提前是为了和use放在一起便于理解 用...作为食物。
常见的as倒装是 由as 引导的让步状语从句表语提前构成倒装结构。
Child as he is, he knew much about the history.

严格地来说，这不是一个倒装句。句子本来是这样的：

the earthworms use some of the plant material in the soil they swallow as food .

由于宾语some of the plant material in the soil they swallow包含了一个定语从句they swallow ，显得太长，为了句子的平衡，被放到了后面。句中use......as ......是“把......用作......”的意思。
