直到清末以前,我国一直是用直音或反切来给汉字注音。

由于察觉到中文的普及困难(笔画,读音),清末就制定过多种方案,比如模仿日文的假名,或者用速记的符号,或者是拉丁语系作为拼音字母。这中间经过漫长的时期,但一直没有一个最为统一的定论。

直到新中国成立后,才正式通过了用拉丁字母系来作为拼音标注。要说与英文的关系,那么就是拼音和英文同属拉丁系的。
