有这样一句话
He ran back inside right away and called the cops, who asked him "Are there any intruders in your house?" to which Charlie replied no and explained his circumstances.
这句话其实不难理解，不过中间的to which做什么成分百思不得其解？

explain是不及物动词，explained to his circumstances解释不通吧
是否可以这样理解
which指代“Are...”这句话
to which 意为对于这句话，Charlie答道...

她说这个to which 没有意义,只不过是他们习惯这么说了,就像如果你在句子中加上that和不加that一样,不加有时候并没有错,但是他们习惯性的加上了. 中间的to which就是把Charlie说no给弄到后面了.
