一英语题初3(以上者来吧)

Scientists are spending as much as they can ______(study) the problem.

(注:答案里是studying!居然是studying!我横竖想不通.不过我也不认为练习里会出这么简单的题目而且会犯那么傻的错.

不知道咋回事呢.有没有can后面加v.ING形式?

这句话的意思是科学家正在尽他们所能的研究（study）这个问题。而spending as much as they can 是伴随状语，因为是个独立部分所以用分词形式。而study用在现在进行时态的，当然是studying。
或者说这句话=Scientists are studying the problem spending as much as they can .

studying

spend some time (in) doing sth。

知是固定搭配，不要想太多

spend.....doing sth
而且你那个句子其实可以写成Scientists are spending sometime studying the problem as much as they can.
但是偶想不通干嘛学习问题....?

Studying 分词
as much as they can 是一个整体，与后面无关。意思是尽他们所能

spend some time (in) doing sth。
