一. 指物时的that和which
下列场合通常只用that
1. 当先行词被序数词或形容词最高级修饰时
e.g. : the first lesson that they learn is the most difficult of all .
this is the most interesting book that i’ve ever read .
2. 当先行词是all , anything , nothing , everything , none , much , little , few , the one等不定代词时
e.g. : he did everything that he could to save the patient .
i mean the one that was bought yesterday .
there’s nothing in the world that can frighten him .
all that i want is peace and quiet .
3. 当先行词被all , any , every , no , only , very , last , next , one of等词所修饰时
e.g. : this is the very book that i’m interested in .
the only thing that we could do was to wait .
you can take any seat that is free .
this is one of the presents that my parents gave me on my birthday .
4. 当先行词既指人又指物时
e.g. : look at the girl and her dog that are crossing the street .
the writer and his novel
