《最后一片藤叶》是一篇感人的故事，讲述了一个叫珍妮的小女孩不幸患了肺炎，而她也已经放弃了一切希望，正等待着死。就在这时，与她同一所公寓的老画家偶然发现，小女孩在数邻居家一棵常春藤的叶子，便问她问什么，她说叶子掉完了我就会死去。这句话激发了老画家，他冒着暴风雨在邻居家的墙上画了一棵只有一片叶子的常春藤，老画家失去了宝贵的生命，珍妮却活了下来。
信念。就是这只剩一片叶子的常春藤使珍妮鼓起勇气活了下去。也许这也是老画家死前唯一的心愿，让珍妮好好活下去。当然，这一切都是因为心理因素所造成的，只要自己有了勇气，一切就会改变。如果我是那位老画家，我一定不会为了珍妮而失去自己宝贵的生命。因为我没有老画家那样的高贵品质，所以我十分敬佩这位老画家，他的品行让我难忘，他的舍己为人让我感动。
总而言之一句话，人的心理因素才是医治的灵丹妙药。读完后，我仍然沉浸在故事的情节里，当珍妮觉得没有希望的时候，我为她着急；想到老画家去世时，我又被他舍己为人的精神感动地流下了眼泪。

THE LAST LEAF
This short story is about Jonnsy , an young artist who suffered pneumonia and at last was out of danger by her friend Sue’good nursing and at the cost of an other artist, Behrman’life. Jonnsy, who knew her illness, lost the hope of living .She just counted backwards the ivy vine leaves in the wall in the yard, because on her mind she has some bad thoughts that when the last leaf fell down, she would die, so she just waited to die. Sue, who made friends with her because of their common taste of art, took good care of her and encouraged her. But Behrman, another artist who was an failure in art, sacrificed himself by painting a picture of the last leaf on the wall at night when there was strong wind and heavy rain to help Jonnsy to change her mind of wanting to die because of the last unfalling leaf. At last, Jonnsy recovered, but Berhman died from pneumonia.
