It is amazing that the Super Girl Contest would be so popular in China. The contest, which is named after the Mengniu Yogurt Company that sponsors the series, can be seen as a Chinese version of Pop Idol/American Idol in the U.S.
As it was the first imitation of such series, it became a great success and made several "super-girls" really popular. However, it is only a kind of fashion, which comes and goes ephemerally. Vogues and fashions die rather fast nowadays.
The contesr was first organized in 2004 by Hunan TV station, and the 2005 competition has captivated a nationwide audience. However, how far it may go is a question only time will tell.
