Welcome to Valparaiso, the venue of the Twentieth Session of the International Coordination Group for the Tsunami Warning System in the Pacific (ICG/ITSU-XX).The Session will be held at the "Gala Hotel ", located at Arlegui 273 in Vina del Mar.

This 20th Session is a milestone in several ways. First of all because of the number "20". Established in 1968, the ITSU programme, its ICG/ITSU and ITIC (International Tsunami Information Center) have been safeguarding the countries bordering the Pacific Ocean for nearly 40 years.

However nobody can forget the horrible images of the impact of the 26 December 2004 tsunami that killed nearly 200,000 people in several countries around the Indian Ocean, made many more homeless and caused tremendous damage. Many tsunami experts who have been involved in ITSU for many years have offered their expertise throughout 2005 to assist countries in the Indian Ocean to establish national tsunami warning and mitiga
