11，A，city和get into a mess是主动的关系，leaving sb doing是留下某人做某事或者任由某人做某事的意思。不过这句话，实在不敢恭维，纯粹为了考试而编出来的，直接说：the city was left in/into a mess就可以了。
12，B，短语leave sb alone，让某人独自待着、别惹某人等等意思。would rather后接从句，用虚拟语气，表示宁愿某人做某事。
