hope要改吗?为什么要，为什么不要？

原因？改间接引语的时候时态向后推移一格。

要改为：People in Valley Town said that they hoped the police would catch the murderer soon.

因为引号里的we指的是people,另外，hope要改，因为主句的动词（said）用过去式，宾语从句也用相应的过去形式。
