forthcoming和coming的区别？

coming V.S. forthcoming

1a．作定语使用，这两个形容词是同义，都作“行将”或“来临”讲，但不一定能通用：前者多半修饰自然现象，而后者则只能修饰人为的事情。

例如：the coming winter来冬（修饰自然现象）

the forthcoming celebration即将来临的庆祝（修饰人为的事情）

1b．后者又可作表语使用，作“乐意的”或“热情的”讲，而且多半用于否定结构；而前者则不能这样使用。

例如：When he was asked why he was late，no answer wasforthcoming．当有人问他为什么迟到，回答总是不得要领。

I asked several persons the way to the post office，but none ofthem were very forthcoming．我问了好些人去邮局怎么走，可没有一人是热情回答的。

The chance we hoped was not forthcoming．我们盼望的机会不是唾手可得的。
