公园现存有方泽坛、皇祗室、宰牲亭、斋宫、神库等多处古建。为保护这些优秀文化遗产，东城区园林局于95年投资30余万为古建大殿安装了防火保护神——烟感报警系统，并先后投入大量资金进行维修保护，特别是1999年完成对神马殿的居民搬迁和修缮，2000年又自筹资金200多万进行了钟楼复建和坛墙修复，为20世纪地坛文物古建保护工作划上一个圆满句号 。
经过多年建设，它已由过去衰败破落的祭祀坛庙发展成一座具有良好生态与景观效果的皇家园林。
方泽坛也称拜台，是帝王祭祀“皇地祗神”的坛台，它是地坛的主建筑，占地面积为一万七千六百八十九平方米，分为上下二层，这样宏伟宽敞的祭地之坛，不仅在中国，而且在世界上也是首屈一指的。方泽坛占地广大、体式壮阔，登临之上，令人念天地之悠悠，畅思绪于百代。
公园西门牌楼雄伟精巧，是北京最大的牌楼之一。它是根据清代乾隆时所建式样重新修建的，建设规模居北京市牌楼之最。绿色的琉璃瓦面，绘以单凤图、双凤图和牡丹图案，正面中心有地坛二字，背面核心有广厚街字样，是地坛公园的主要景点之一。
近年来新增建月季园、牡丹园、集芳囿等新的园林景点。由艺术大师刘海粟题写名识的月季园是一个集展览、观赏、科普于一体的月季花园，内有月季300余种，幽雅别致的牡丹园中喷水池、石拱桥、亭廊、水榭毗连相接，集芳囿则是一座别具特色的园中园。
