如果一个医生驾车时发现路边出现交通事故，他没有停下车来提供急救的法律义务。他有可能因为担心承担法律责任而不愿意这么做。因此，好撒玛利亚人法就为自愿提供急救的医生和普通人提供了保护。如果医生没有急救的法律义务但还是提供了救护，在这种情况下，除非他是出于恶意或构成严重过失，否则被救护的人就不能因医疗事故告倒他。这样，医护或非医护人员就能坚持自己帮助他人的信仰，而又受到法律保护不被伤害。
