deceive和defraud的区别

cheat, deceive, defraud, swindle v.t. & v.i.
这些词都有“欺骗”的意思。
Cheat着重为自己的利益或占别人的便宜时而“行使不诚实的手段”，因此常用于骗取钱财等场合。例如：
A swindler cheated her (out) of one hundred dollars by selling her a watch which did not work. 一个骗子卖给她一只不走的表，骗走了一百元。
All reactionaries attempt to cheat the people of the fruits of their hard-earned victory. 一切反动派企图攫夺人民经过艰苦奋斗而获得的胜利果实。
Tom cheated at the examination, but the teacher was not deceived. 汤姆在考试时作弊，但教师并没有受骗。
Deceive着重“隐瞒真相”或“造成错误印象”。在被动语态中或后面接反身代词时，往往仅强调“弄错了”的结果，不一定意味着受到有意的欺骗。例如：
That was simply a blind designed to deceive the enemy. 那不过是一种使敌人上当的烟幕。
I was deceived in his apparent competence. 他看上去好像很能干，其实我看错了。（在这里“他”不见得有欺骗的企图。）
He deceives himself if he thinks he is indispensable. 如果他认为少了他就不行，那他可就想错了。
Defraud骗取。本指编造谎话使人不明真相，而不表示狡猾、有手腕或诡计。例如：
You should not defraud your neighbor, neither rob him. 对你的邻居，你既不要欺骗，也不能强夺。
Freedom of speech and press does not include the right to deceive or defraud. 言论和出版的自由并不包括有权欺骗
