continue作为及物动词时可以这样用：The baby continued crying.
remain作为连系动词可以这样用：he remain standing for a few hour.
所以很难决定该选哪一个。

我认为是remained，因为continued包含着停下来再开始的意思，remained有持续的意思我不知道我表述的准不准确，但是像条子拉人时不是都会说“you have right remain silcent”什么什么的，而且这句话应该是要突出那个“he”一直在读书而没去玩，所以我觉得是remained
remained,留下来继续做,有指这个状态没有改变过的意思,而continued指被什么打断过又接着继续做的意思,同意楼上,
