To change GMT to local time,we must know the time difference between GMT and local time.As you go east from Greenwich,you add hours to the current GMT .As you go west you subtract hours.In the United States,during the summer,some areas use Daylight Savings Time.In these states,people set their clocks forward one hour so that they can enjoy a longer evening before it gets dark.The abbreviations EDT,CDT and MDT stand for Daylight Savings Time in three parts of the U.S.
