I am sorry ,but
我曾在两张中考卷子上见过这个类似的句型
可是按照习惯，I am sorry，后面再but语意是不通的。
那两个句子的语境是差不多的。
1我们（电影院）这里的座位满了..
2我们（饭店）这没有空桌了....
具体倒是怎么用啊......

很多中文也是不合语法的，但是习惯如此，这个是固定用法，记住就可以了。
比如说：
－You think you can meet me tonight?
-Sorry, but I've got something to do tonight.
隐藏的是，Sorry, (I would love to), but I've got smoething to do.
这样理解就不会觉得意思不通了。

这句话的意思是“我很抱歉”。
对等连接词but用在一些表示歉意的话之后，不表示转折意义，如：
Excuse me, but could you lend me some change?
I'm sorry to trouble you, but do you have change for a one?
Excuse me, but could you tell me the way to the station?
I'm sorry, but I couldn't find the book which you lent me.

“I am sorry ,but ..”的意思是“不好意思，但是…”。
之所以用“I am sorry ”的原因是一种委婉的说法，外国人不习惯直接反对，用“I am sorry ”可以缓和一下语气，不至于让人太难堪。

but表示转折,也就是很委婉的拒绝,说话人主要要表达的意思是but后的
