Any man who wants to learn since ancient times must have teachers to pass on the truth and get rid of ignorance. For any man is not born knowledgeable, who can be free from ignorance? However, if the ignorant do not have teachers, they remain so for ever.
Some teachers might be born before me and thus learned the truth before me, so I should learn from them. Some might have been born after me, but learn the truth before me, so I should learn from them too. What I seek is nothing but truth, and that is why I do not mind my teacher’s age. Anyone who knows the truth can be my teacher, whether he is noble or common, senior or junior.
Alas, to be ignorant is natural since people have stopped learning from teachers for long. The old sages were far superior to the common, but they still sought the truth from teachers.
