We can say "To one's suprise"、"To one's dismay",so can we say "to one's (every nuon that reflects one's feeling)"?And I am wondering could we say "much to one's dismay"?(probably not).
I partly agree with you, I think much to one's dismay is ok, however, I don't think this rule applies to every word that relfects one's feeling, because language is not math, there's no distinct rule, maybe to one's surprise sounds very natural, whereas to one's XXXX is odd. So I think we should not use a word when we're not sure whether it's right or wrong, I think the best way is to "follow suit", maybe some day, you'll see another word that can be used in this way, so you just meorize it. Good luck!
Learn enough words/rules, before you can create your own.
that is absolutely OK.
