我没有偷那个拥抱
在我7岁那年，当孤儿院最终把惊魂未定的我从那个黑乎乎的贮衣间里放出来的时候，我已经被关了整整两天。我洗了澡，刷了牙，穿上女舍监放在我床上的衣服，就准备去学校了。当我走到斯普林公园小学时，我没有停下脚步而是一直走过了校舍。我的腿被马球棍狠狠地打过，所以我害怕班上其他的小孩会因为我腿上青一块紫一块而取笑我。
我不停的走，似乎走了好几个小时。最后我来到了位于斯普林公园大道尽头的一条宽阔的大街上。我有生以来从没见过这么宽的街道和这么多的汽车。
大街的对面是一家很大的砖砌的商店，屋顶上的招牌写着“普雷斯顿药店”。在窗户上也有一块招牌，上面写着：“这里有您想要的一切。”
因为我非常害怕那些飞驰的汽车，所以差不多花了一个小时才穿过大西洋大街。最后，我用尽全身的力气以最快的速度冲过了那条街。当我走进那家宽敞的普雷斯顿药店时。我发现店里的人都坐在一个柜台前嚼着一种上面浮有冰淇淋的饮料，虽然我以前从没有吃过冰淇淋，不过那并不是我想要的东西。
那块招牌上说：“这里有您想要的‘一切’”。我想要一样非常特别的东西。于是我开始寻找它。我东看看西瞧瞧，找来找去，可就是找不到在电视播放的影片中所看到过的东西。突然一位老人抓住我的手臂，把我吓得半死。
“你在这里干什么，小孩？”他对我吼道。
“我在找一样很特别的东西。”我一边告诉他一边退向墙壁。
“你在偷东西吗？”他又吼起来，还戳我的鼻子。
“没有，先生，”我抽泣道，“我不是小偷。”
他把我带进办公室，接着一名警察走进来问我为什么没有去上学。我什么都没说，我害怕他会因为我从孤儿院逃出来而抓我去监狱。于是我开始放声大哭起来。
那名警察从我这里问不出个所以然，于是他走出办公室，找来一位25岁左右的漂亮女士跟我说话。她走进来在我身边坐下。我刚刚进商店时就看见她正站在柜台后面递送冰淇淋和饮料。
