1. Introduction
Nowadays, there exist two challenges in Intelligent Building
(IB) integration research. One is how to overcome the incompatibilities
and limited opportunities for the integration of
building automation systems (BAS) among products of different
vendors. Another is how to integrate BAS with the Internet and
enterprise applications. These challenges have frustrated real
estate developers, building owners/operators, consultants and
system integrators [1].
In a typical BAS setup, different communication protocols
are employed, even among the products from the same company.
A popular way to integrate the products using various protocols
is to employ the hardware gateway method [2]. The hardware
gateway plays the role to convert a protocol to another protocol
by mapping data points from one protocol to another protocol
[3]. However, the development of the hardware gateway requires
