The application of the geographic information system (GIS) in the environmental impact assessment (EIA)

This article introduces the basic theory and major application field of the geographic information system (GIS) and analyzes the necessity and feasibility of the application of GIS to the environmental impact assessment (EIA). Further, it takes the EIA of Chancheng New District as an example in discussing the plan of the application of GIS in detail, and gives solutions to the problems existing in the process of the application. The results show that despite lots of restrictions, there is still good prospect of the application of GIS to EIA.
