政府审计是我国政治体制的重要组成部分，是国民经济运行的卫士，是领导决策和民众的眼睛。政府审计目标是审计工作的出发点和归宿，做好政府审计工作对于提高审计工作水平和充分发挥审计监督作用具有重要意义。如今审计署的审计风暴社会反响很大，而政府审计机关基本是“默默无闻”，这里面有体制、机制的原因，可能更多的是要从自身工作上找原因。作为政府审计机关和审计人员要开拓审计工作新局面。
本文通过对政府审计工作的现状分析，指出了当前存在的问题，我国政府审计经过20多年的探索和发展，取得了可喜的成就，但随着经济体制的变革，国外审计理念的渗透，特别是加入WTO对政府管理体制、企业治理方式、财政税收领域带来的变化,政府审计职权、运行机制、管理体制和运作理念已经不能跟上时代的步伐。所以根据以上问题提出了几点完善政府审计工作的对策及创新的思考，要以改革的精神调整审计思路，与时俱进和奋发有力的精神状态创造性地开展工作，实现思想观念的转变，进一步加速体制转轨和经济转型，使我们加快走向市场经济、法制经济和信用经济，这一切将对政府工作和审计工作产生复杂而深远的影响。
