the United kingdom and Australia

The United Kingdom (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)是专有名词和普通名词组成的国名,要用定冠词the;
Australia是表示国名的专名,不用定冠词the;
但The Commonwealth of Australia中就需要用定冠词.

有例外,这些专有名词做国名,前面必加定冠词the,如:
The Philippines 菲律宾(由菲律宾群岛组成)
The Congo 刚果(因刚果河得名)
The Netherlands 荷兰(意即低洼之地)

复合专用名词才用The.

因为不需要特指所以不加the ，比如China就用来代表中国，不需要变成the China，但是特殊的国名如美国就得特指，说成the United States of America，答得不好，望高手指教～～
