With the fire danger across the region increasing, fire crews are on edge about all of the fireworks that come along with the Fourth of July. We hear a lot of warnings about how easily fireworks can start wildfires. So today with the help of a fire crew here at Spokane's fire training center we put those warnings to the test. We bought sparklers, roman candles, and a few other kinds of fireworks, then gathered some brush, and brought it all to the fire training center; where we ran through a couple different scenarios. This groundbloom ignited inside the training building and launched in all directions. Some of the sparks landed on a pinecone, which started to smolder. Surrounded by fire-fighters, we moved outside where the results of fireworks mixing with dry brush were more immediate. The second the sparkler dropped to the ground the grass ignited.
