我知道是选A。但为什么D不行？语法上没错吧？

如果是comparing，发出这个动作的主语就该是 the highest mountain，主语保持一致，但比较是人为的，不是山自己在比较

Mountain can't DO the comparing.
It is people who is comparing.

Mountain应是现在分词短语的逻辑主语。
