UC知道怎么译成英语

这句话的译文我见过一次，他好象是把“达”和“穷”分别译成了rich和 poor。但在古代汉语中它们大致上分别是“在政治上飞黄腾达”和“在政治上怀才不遇”的意思，所以我觉得那种译法不太准确，但又不知怎样翻译更好，请各位高手指教。

我见到的译文是the key laborotary of special functional materails。我觉得of应改为for，因为of表示归属for才表示目的。另外，materail一定是有function的，如果用functional做定语修饰materails虽然说得过去但不很合逻辑，我想可不可以让用“功能”的副词形式修饰special（special修饰materails）以此特别指出是“材料”是在“功能”上“特别”？也就是说改成functionally special materails。不过这只是我的一孔之见，各位网友以为那种译法更好？有没有更好的译法？是什么？
