通过上述实验可以看出，幼苗的根是依靠根尖的生长向下延伸的。根尖之所以能够生长，是由根尖生长点（分生组织）的细胞能够不断地分裂产生新细胞，以及新细胞不断伸长的结果。伸长的细胞随后开始分化，形成根毛、导管等不同结构，于是植物的根便发育成熟了。
