Yi Jianlian, born on October 27, 1987, in Heshan, Guangdong, China and then raised in Shenzhen, is a Chinese professional basketball player. As a power forward, Yi previously played for the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association. He was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association as the 6th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. He was initially reluctant to sign with the Bucks, reportedly because his agents and handlers preferred that he play for a team based in a city with a large Asian population. His agents and handlers denied this, though, stating that they were simply worried about whether or not Yi would get satisfactory playing time for the upcoming olympics.
