一： apart from: 介词短语，一般要放在句首，有两个意思：

第一个意思是：除了...以外什么也没有，（带有否定的意思）。

例如：Apart from his nose, he is quite good-looking .除了鼻子以外，他哪里都很好看。（不包括鼻子）

第二个意思是：除了...以外还，（带有肯定的意思）。

例如：Apart from the injuries to his face and hands ,he broke his legs.除了脸和双手受伤了以外，腿也断了（包括脸和手）

二：other than 表示纯粹否定的意思，有“除掉”， “此外”的意思。

例如：
what result can you expect other than disgrace and failure(除了耻辱和失败以外，你能指望什么结果呢？）意思就是你什么都指望不到。

再比如：

I have not read any of Dickens's novels other than David Copperfield(除了大卫科波菲尔以外，我没有度过狄更斯的任何其他小说）。
