2.Never married people and divorced people in the year 2000 were a little bit more than these people in 1970.
问题是：1.only提前的倒装句，前面的这个the 有问题吗？
2. 自己感觉句子有些冗长， 能否精简一下， 还有 these 能不能改成those ？

我和回答者：gkgk2002 的看法完全类似.
第一个要看你强调的东西 在这里没必要
they could do就可以了
第二个个人觉得改成
Unmarried and divorced people in the year 2000 were a bit more than those in 1970.
比较好
首先 这两个地方的people都是废话 不要
尤其是最后面的一个people是典型的中式英语
little/bit选留一个 差不多的 没必要用litte bit太啰嗦了!
必须使用those不能使用these
the year 其实也可以不要
were的话要看语境了

我决得第一句应该是THEY COULD DO吧。。
不存在倒装的问题啊。
THEY COULD DO 定语修饰THE ONLY THING
第2句改成UNMARRIED 的比较好吧。
