"Freaky, funky and romantic"....those are the words that Alexander James McLean uses to describe himself. Better known as A.J. in the group Backstreet Boys, he was born January 9, 1978 in West Palm Beach, Florida. His parents, Bob and Denise McLean, were divorced when he was very young and this deeply affected him. He had basically no relationship at all with his father and was raised by his mother and grandparents. He put all his focus into performing. He modeled for a few years before landing a role as Dopey, the dwarf, in the play 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. He had performed in over 20 plays by the time he was 12 years of age. He and Howie D. met at several auditions over the years and vastly became good friends. It wasn't long after, 1992 in fact, when he, Howie D. and Nickolas Carter soon became the first 3 Backstreet Boys. Joined soon after by cousins Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell.
