Well... there's the western culture and eastern culture. If you're talking about supernatural beliefs of the eastern culture... you can talk about umm... burning paper money for the deceased, in the belief that they'll use it in the afterlife. Burning incense during the holidays or special occasions for Buddha or Guan Yin to receive their blessing...

Western culture is a little tricky, since there's the whole religion vs. pagan belief thing... Stuff like... oh... I don't know... garlic to repel vampires, during the full moon werewolves run around... witches riding on brooms... Oh! You can pick some reference from the Harry Potter books, I would say.
