中国各具特色的古村镇真实地反映了农业文明时代的技术、文化、艺术等成就，是中华民族宝贵的文化遗产，在中国建筑史上有很高的价值。乌拉街满族自治镇就是东北地区的杰出代表。
乌拉街镇的性质为：以旅游业为主导的、具有浓厚满族风情的历史文化名镇。它是吉林市的四个全国重点镇之一，位于松花江上游右岸，吉林省中部偏东地区，吉林市龙潭区北部。发展于隋唐，兴盛于清朝，历经了一千多年的风风雨雨，总体布局基本保存下来了，也有不少明清建筑得以幸存。虽然镇中历史遗存建筑已经被列为省级文物，但长期无人看管维护，没有使用功能，破败损坏的速度很快；此外，老街两侧建筑面临居民自发无序改造和重建的问题，城镇面貌杂乱无序，古镇的文化传统内核岌岌可危。这也是摆在我们面前的一个重要问题。除了古镇中的古建筑急需进行实测修缮外，还需制订和施行保护措施，并加以利用，以免珍贵的历史遗存继续遭到损害。
论文首先从乌拉街镇建筑遗存沿革、历史背景入手，了解乌拉街镇的历史文化渊源;然后通过对这些建筑遗存实际现状调查分析,阐述其历史、艺术、科学价值，为这些建筑遗存应得到保护进行充分论证。然后研究了当地建筑遗存的保护和利用策略,从建筑角度,对城市整体风貌保护规划布局、街区整治，到建筑遗存单体的保护与修缮确立保护原则和具体措施，提出关于乌拉街镇建筑遗存的保护利用方式。
最后，通过对乌拉街建筑遗存的研究，为古镇保护工作提供理论依据和数据实物资料。通过本课题的研究，希望人们了解深埋多年的历史，展示乌拉街镇独具特色的建筑艺术，唤起民众和社会各界的保护意识，珍惜爱护我们的历史宝藏。
