Similar data-acquisition networks for solar radiation monitoring have been described elsewhere
(e.g. Michalsky, Perez, and Stewart, 1988; Pereira

Olmo, 1995; Hession and Bonwick, 1983). The techniques described here could also be used in laboratory experiments and research where continuous
monitoring and control is required. The advantages
include the use of a few inexpensive hardware
items, low power consumption, and automatic unattended operation for up to a month. The use of this system together with the serial-communication program eliminates the need to enter monitored data manually into computer files for analysis, and the computer for controlling the DAS is not dedicated to the system.
