随着学英语讲英语的普及,英语演讲越来越被人们所重视,因为演讲可以培养交际过程中的各种语言运用能力,如逻辑与创造思维、论据收集、分析、合成、组织构架、快速反应、自信心的培养、鉴别欣赏水平的提高(Grice,1998)。对培养具有过硬语言能力、胜任多种语境的复合性人才有着很大的潜势。据调查发现,美国95.3%的中学都开设了英语演讲课,而在国内中学几乎没开始这样的课程,先进的老师顶多设计课前演讲三分钟或五分钟的环节。许多大学都在纷纷进行课程改革,但国内开设英语演讲课的大学只有几所如:北京外国语大学、清华大学、四川大学、对外经济贸易大学等名牌学校,其它院校特别是一般本科学校逐步认识到了英语演讲训练对大学口语教学的促进作用,但并未将其单独设为一门课程进行教学和研究。本文将对以下基本内容进行分析和阐述,来说明开设英语演讲课的必要性、重要性、和可行性。
